TECHNICAL COMMITTEE NEWSLETTER NO 4 2004
Sudden Death
I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of
the sudden death of Barrie Scott, IPF Category 1 Referee and approved
examiner for Great Britain.
Barrie was the most gentlemanly of men and
of an extremely willing disposition. He was most conscientious in his
position, always informing me in advance of potential candidates.
I would like to extend my personal
condolences and that of the IPF Technical Committee to his family and
friends. He will be sadly missed.
New Gear ( for T.C. approval )
The Technical Committee have received new
Bench Shirts and Wraps from Metal Shop ( Finland ) for IPF approval.
These will be studied in Committee in June to see if they meet the
required criteria.
A Bench Shirt from MURPHY ( Brazil ) handed
casually to the Chairman for scrutiny is not legal. The required fee
not having been paid.
Congratulations
To the following having recently passed the
IPF Referee's Examination.

Proposal to Congress ( November 2004 )
The Technical Committee are not in receipt
of any more proposals than those published in earlier Newsletters this
year.
National Secretaries please note that the
Technical Committee would appreciate proposals on behalf of your
members by the end of June.
Proposals will not be accepted from the
floor on the day of Congress !
Technical Checklist
Organisers of all World IPF Meets must now
complete a Technical Checklist provided by the IPF Championships
Secretary Gaston Parage, return it to him, with a copy to the Chairman
of the Technical Committee John Stephenson.
This comprehensive document contains all of
the requirements one would expect at a major championships.
International Language
We would urge all who wish to receive a
response to letters addressed to the Technical Committee that e:mails
should be typed in English. The official IPF language.
Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships ?
Peter Fiore ( G.B. ) tells me that he is
making considerable progress in his quest to establish a " British "
Commonwealth Championships, probably August 2005.
To consider it a success Peter says he needs
a minimum of 10 countries to participate.
His current thinking is to have Junior,
Senior and possibly Master teams combined from each Nation.
Peter is asking for IPF approval of this
proposed calendar event. We the Technical Committee will support him in
any way possible !
Suits/Shirts ( Supportive )
Although the IPF requirement of the material
for supportive equipment is of one ply, some of the samples sent to the
T.C. for approval are becoming increasingly thicker and of very, very,
little elasticity.
Our recommendation to the Executive
Committee is that the material be limited to ---- microns ? and that the
shirt be as that of costume i.e. stretch material.
This will be under discussion at the first
full meeting of the T.C./E.C. in June.
Crain Gear
Gaston Parage IPF Treasurer informs the
Committee that all Crain supportive equipment approved by the T.C. is
now legal. The licensing fees having been received.
International Referee's
I am in receipt of a letter in which a
referee wishes to be known why he has not been included in the list of
referee's as produced by our Referee Registrar Goran Gunnarsson for the
period 2004 - 2007 inclusive.
The simple answer is that the Registration
Fee has not been paid.
These to IPF Treasurer Gaston Parage, with
the activity of the particular referee during the last 4 years from his
/ her National Secretary to Goran Gunnarsson
