Presidents Corner

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen

As the Classic Powerlifting World Championships in Killeen Texas USA commences, it is important and pleasing to see the biggest number of nations ever assembled, participating here . This is very good for our sport especially  as we in the process of achieving IOC recognition. It is especially a great  pleasure to  see nations such as Lebanon, Libya and Egypt come together here in the spirt of sport. Also we take pleasure in welcoming nations such as Kiribati, Nauru, Tuvalu, Trinidad and Tobago to this championship. It is very important to show that membership and the participation is growing throughout all our regions. There are around 700 lifters participating here in Killeen from some 56 nations and this is a big success for the Classic Powerlifting Championships.

I want to convey my sincere thanks to the referees who are in attendance here. I thank them for their hard work, sitting from morning until night to officiate here. I am happy to see a staff of referees who have such interest in Powerlifting because without them all of this could not be happening.

Great thanks to the coaches who spend so much time with the lifters, bringing them up to such high standards of performance and coaching them on the day. I remind all coaches and those interested in coaching, to attend the IPF Coaching Clinic at La Manga. It is important that coaches take part in the clinic so that they can achieve the IPF International Coaching License. Coaches do not just need high level knowledge in coaching but must also be educated about their responsibilities towards our young lifters.

I give my thanks to the organiser of this championship, Mr. Johnny Graham and his staff for all their hard work. Thank you also to the city and Mayor of Killeen for their warm welcome and all their help to make sure that we have everything we need in the convention centre. Further thanks goes to the USAPL for all their input into the success of this event.

Thanks also to the Media Team who show that we continue to improve and go forward with excellent streaming of our events. They bring professionalism, knowledge and input into how the event should be presented so that we are always looking professional in our online streaming.  Of course we cannot forget the online commentators and the platform announcers and the scoring managers who are working from morning to night, sometimes managing two platforms at once.

Last but not least, the biggest thanks goes to the lifters for the great show they put on. This competition has made a flying start with World Records already achieved and I send congratulations to all the champions and record holders to come and to all the lifters who will take part in the Classic Powerlifting World Championships. We hope to see you all again next year where this event will be held in Minsk. I am sure that event will be very well organized with great support from their Government and their National Olympic Committee.

But for now, I hope you all enjoy this championship, watch it on the online streaming and the IPF YouTube channel where all sessions will be uploaded for all to watch again.

Next I look forward to seeing you all in Minsk for the University CUP in a few weeks’ time.
